About unartifex

unartifex is home to my portfolio, sketch blog and many other nonsense that I enjoy. No, it's not spelled with a capital "U," no matter the circumstances. The gigantic "U" just looks ugly, it's as simple as that. I started the site sometime back in the summer of 2002. At the time, I didn't exactly have a clear purpose for having a site, it was really just for fun; however, over time I came to use it as a gallery for showcasing my art. By the way, unartifex is a crude hybrid of French and Latin. "Un" meaning "one," and "artifex" meaning artist.

About Colin

Colin (yes, from now on I shall refer to myself in the third person) is a Singapore-born Canadian. He's currently in Singapore waiting for enlistment. God-willing, once he finishes his service, he'll continue with his post secondary schooling back in Canada and pursuit of a career as a concept artist. Colin enjoys Japanese animation a lot and it shows in his works. He does indeed have fun exploring other various forms of art, even if he fails at experimenting with them. In addition to drawing, he also has a passion for photography! He picked it up in Grade 11 and simply grew to like it. Aside from the art related stuff, Colin has fun playing basketball and just hanging out with his friends. That, and he also enjoys video games, it's one of the bigger reasons as to why he's really passionate about pursuing a career as a concept artist.

Works

Colin currently works with California based Okashi Studios as lead background artist.

Commissions

I (Back to first person!) also do freelance commissions. My prices depend on what's wanted. The more complicated and time consuming the commission, the higher the price will be. To give you an idea, sketches and simple drawings start at USD$20. If you're interested in commissioning me, please follow the following steps,
  1. Contact me at tan.hardedge[at]gmail.com with what you would like.
  2. If I'm available, I'll reply within a day or two. We'll discuss the commission and I'll give you a quote.
  3. You pay up half of the decided price and I get cracking.
  4. When I'm done, I'll send you a watermarked, low resolution sample.
  5. If all is good and no changes are needed, you can pay up the remaining sum. Once I receive the rest of the payment, I'll send you a higher resolution file and our business is done.
For your information, I will not be sending customers 300dpi print-ready files. This is for my own protection. While I am offering my drawing services, I will retain the Copyright © to the art itself and will not risk being exploited. You may not use any commissioned art for profit or commercial use, they are to be used only for private purposes.

At the moment, I only accept payments through Paypal. I'll be looking into other available methods in the future.

Keep in mind that there are certain things that I will not draw due to personal morals and beliefs.
